The 59th Annual Grammy Awards – Big Moments
- Adele performs a tribute to George Michael – halts it after starting and starts over due to feeling that her beginning performance was lacking, and wins the Album of the Year award, only to state that she feels the album should’ve gone to Beyonce for creating such a powerful body of work in Lemonade.
- Beyonce provides stunning visuals in her Grammys performance.
- Chance the Rapper snatches a total of 3 – count ’em – three Grammy awards, without any labels backing him, and labels are currently clamoring to sign him. He is still turning down record label interest.
- Ed Sheeran performs “Shape of You” and kills the performance.
- Drake snatches a total of two Grammys, for “Hotline Bling.”
- The Twenty One Pilots come out of their clothes prior to accepting their award, then provide a touching story backing up that action.
- Alicia Keys and Maren Morris perform live onstage, and kill it.

Uber Not Everywhere: Consumers Boycotting Uber
The general consensus of the public seems to be that Uber had a lukewarm response to Trump’s immigration ban. Whereas other taxi companies and Lyft were on a taxi strike, Uber continued to take rides and instead, temporarily lowered surge pricing. Mere hours after social media went into a boycotting hashtag frenzy, Lyft announced that they would be donating one million dollars to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). After catching major heat for their company decision, Uber announced they’d be establishing a three million dollar legal fund for immigrant drivers.

Drake’s Boy Meets World Tour Proves To Be Worth the Wait
Many United States citizens who’ve attempted to give Donald Trump a chance to prove their worst fears wrong, have received a rude awakening once Trump imposed a ban on travel from seven Muslim-majority countries. This order is also estimated to affect nearly 500,000 legal United States residents, preventing them from returning back to the US.

The film industry is in desperate need of new voices and fresh material, as evidenced by the same five movies that continue to get recycled and rebooted over and over again. We touched on this topic in the I Feel Like I’ve Seen This Movie Before article. This need for new voices and fresh material isn’t due to a lack of emerging filmmakers and screenwriters – there are so many promising independent filmmakers and screenwriters who don’t yet have a large enough platform to introduce their work to the world. Will and Jada Smith have partnered up with Sundance in an effort to make some of these artistic voices heard.

Jhene Aiko most certainly knows how to get our tongues wagging. The 28-year old songstress released a sexy tease of a song in “Maniac,” and also dropped an intense visual. She interviewed with both Ebro in the Morning and The Breakfast Club, and opened up a bit about her relationship with Big Sean, upcoming Twenty88 releases, her own new project, and sex in general. She didn’t give any project release dates, but I’m excited to see what this adorable, self-admitted nymphomaniac has in store for us. Check out the video below:
Sprint Buys a Third of Tidal
In the first quarter of 2015, Jay-Z shelled out $58 million dollars for Tidal. There have been critics throughout his attempt to turn the company around into a media powerhouse, but his investment is justified as Sprint is reported to have paid $200 million for a 33% stake in the company.

Meanwhile, in NYC…
Women’s marches across the country gather to send a message to D.C. Approximately 750,000 people have gathered in Los Angeles alone. Singer Pink was one of many Los Angeles march attendees. Alicia Keys, Janelle Monae, and Madonna were three speakers who sent powerful messages at the D.C. march. In addition to speaking, Keys performed “Girl on Fire,” Janelle Monae performed “Hell You Talmbout,” and Madonna performed “Express Yourself” and “Human Nature.”
Scarlett Johnasson spoke at the D.C. march, stating:
“President Trump, I did not vote for you. That said, I respect that you are our President-elect and I want to be able to support you,” she said. “First, I ask that you support me, support my sister, support my mother, support my best friend and all of our girlfriends, support the men and women here today that are anxiously awaiting to see how your next moves may drastically affect their lives.”
“Support my daughter,” she continued, “who may actually — as a result of the appointments you have made — grow up in a country that is moving backwards, not forwards, and who potentially may not have the right to make choices for her body and her future that your daughter, Ivanka, has been privileged to have.”
These names are just a few of many who took the time to speak up at these events. And these events are just a few of many that will happen over the upcoming years.

“He Will Not Divide Us” – a project with a title that carries a strong message that America needs to hear right now. Shia LaBeouf’s project was announced today. The project features Jaden Smith as well as other cast repeating the mantra “He will not divide us.” A website was created for the project, http://hewillnotdivide.us/ . The website states:
“Commencing at 9am on January 20, 2017, the day of the inauguration of the 45th President of the United States, the public is invited to deliver the words “HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US” into a camera mounted on a wall outside the Museum of the Moving Image, New York, repeating the phrase as many times, and for as long as they wish.
Open to all, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the participatory performance will be live-streamed continuously for four years, or the duration of the presidency. In this way, the mantra “HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US” acts as a show of resistance or insistence, opposition or optimism, guided by the spirit of each individual participant and the community.”
This is a stream that you are allowed to roll back, if you want to check some of the country’s citizens who pass by or stand in front of the camera, speaking the same mantra. It’s a message that would do us all some good to keep in mind.
America’s 45th president, Donald Trump, was sworn in today. While the attendee count was underwhelming, the memes have been quite entertaining. Sadly, rioting did occur in the D.C. area today. An article addressing this will be posted on the Entertainment page.
Meanwhile, it’s tough to say goodbye to a president who truly did the best he could to turn this country around and get us out of the economical mess that we were buried beneath. Name a president and anyone will have bullet points to harp on what he did wrong, but we were fortunate to have Obama as our president.
